Located on the promenade by the sea, the Maritime Museum, which was established in 1957 includes exhibitions of diverse historical material significant for the maritime industry of Orebi?.

 

The archaeological department comprises of antique, mostly Roman, pagan, and early Christian objects from everyday life and fragments of artistic objects, as well as fragments of pre-Romanic church furniture from the age of conversion to Christianity. The glass showcases harbour fragments of glass bottles and wall paintings, bronze objects, Byzantine and medieval money and other tiny objects for church, domestic and fishing use that were discovered in ruins on the Island of Majsan from prehistory to the 11th century AD. These belonged to a pagan villa, an early medieval convent and a church. The museum also displays paintings of Pelješac sailboats, maritime instruments, weapons, atlases, nautical and school books, health and travel documents, a ship pharmacy, medals and paintings of seafarers, documents, regulations, list of members, voyages and the Regulation of insurance of the sailors that belonged to the Pelješac maritime society. Also on display are, figureheads, ship equipment, balls made of ship rope with which sailors played, carpenter tools of shipbuilders that belonged to the short-lived communal shipyard founded in Orebi? in 1875, whose neo-Baroque columns, and gates can still be seen along next to a road in the area that is still called 'Škvar' (shipyard). The museum tells the story of the Pelješac maritime association, which existed from 1855 to 1891, and which disintegrated with the occurrence of the superior steamer ships and of the general Orebi? shipping industry.

Monastery

 

Another Orebi? attraction is the Franciscan monastery and Church of Our Lady of Angels. The wonderful view from 150 metres above sea level, where the loggia of the monastery is located, provides unforgettable images of the Pelješac canal, Kor?ula, Mljet and Lastovo.
